Bernard (Bernie) Ward Young, 87, formerly of Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Saint Peter's Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ. Born in Gabriels, NY on May 7, 1922, he was the son of Ward and Pearl (Smith) Young. On February 7, 1953, Bernie married the former Pearl Raymo. Pearl died just two months ago on February 21st. Bernie had resided in Tupper Lake for 52 years before moving to New Jersey in 2005. While in Tupper lake, he was employed as a cook at Sunmount Veterans Hospital and later Sunmount DDSO and retired after 35 years of service. He was an active member of the community, delivering meals on wheels and volunteering at the senior center. He was a communicant of St. Alphonsus church. Bernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII from November 1942 being honorably discharged, March 8, 1946. He is survived by his daughter Wanda Bourque and her husband Conrad, two grandchildren, Dustin and Nicole of Monmouth Junction, NJ and one brother Donald and his wife Barbara of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, his parents and a sister Lucille Gorden. A graveside service for Bernie and Pearl is scheduled for May 1 at 1:30 PM at Lakeview cemetery.
