Richard Yorkey

April 28, 1930 — June 10, 2020

Richard Anthony Yorkey, age 90, formerly of Saranac Lake and currently of Lake Placid, died Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at his home.

Born in Pulaski, New York on April 28, 1930, he was the son of Bertram and Elsie (Petrie) Yorkey.

Dick came to Saranac Lake in 1937 with his father and brothers to run Yorkey’s Sonoco Service Station on Upper Broadway. After being discharged from the United States Army where he served from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War, he returned and married Carol Strack on Saturday, August 17, 1963 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid.

Through his life he was a member of the of the American Legion, member and past Chief of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Saranac Lake Men's bowling league, 50 year member in the United Association of Plumbing and Pipe fitting Union 773. Dick’s family time was spent on the Lower Lake where they had a State Camp. He also owned and operated Prescott House girl’s dorm for NCCC with his wife Carol, and Chet and Dot Fobare for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Lake Placid, two sons Richard (Angie) Yorkey of Bloomingdale, NY and Jeffrey (Clair Catillaz) Yorkey of Pittsford, NY one brothers George (Anne) Yorkey of Rancho Santé Fe, CA, and two grandchildren Mark and Kelly Yorkey of Pittsford, NY. He was preceded in death by two brothers James and Bertram Yorkey and four sisters: Janet Bartholomew, Betty Bundy, Grace Kunz and Elsie Yorkey

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake Private family services will take place at the convenience of the family.
