Ruby Williams

Ruby Lucille Williams, age 92, formerly of 14 Kiwassa Road, Saranac Lake, NY died Sunday, August 09, 2015 at Essex Center (formerly Horace Nye Home) in Elizabethtown, NY where she has been a resident since 2010.

Born in New Boston, TX on March 17, 1923, she was the daughter of Claude and Mamie (Machin) Swinney. Ruby married Billy Williams on February 28, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. Billy predeceased her in 2006.

She had been a resident of Saranac Lake for several years, coming from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Prior to that she lived in Tutwiler, Mississippi where she and her husband owned and operated Williams Flying service from 1954 to 1984. During the war she was an ROTC nurse trainee. After the war she worked as a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma City, OK for several years and as a school teacher for one year in Rohwer, Arkansas. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines, Inc. International Organization of Women's Pilots and the Garden Club in Tutwiler, Mississippi. Locally, she was an election worker who also volunteered at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and the Adirondack Medical Center.

She is survived by three daughters, including Suzanne Fitzsimons of Saranac Lake, NY, Jeanne Ringewald of Ft. Pierce, FL, Bobbie Ryan of Guntersville, AL; five grandchildren, including Steve Walthall Klyce Jr. of Ft Pierce, FL, Nevada Ryan of Huntsville, AL, Sallie Walton Hardman of Port St Lucie, FL, Samantha Lucille Cherneski of Huntsville, AL, and William Forest Fitzsimons of Evanston, IL; and two great grandchildren, Gabriel Grant Hardman and Savannah Walton Hardman.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday August 17 at the Westport Bible Church. Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. She will be interred beside her husband at Arlington National cemetery.
