Florence Wenke

July 31, 1927 — February 1, 2011

Florence S. Wenke, age 83, formerly of Saranac Lake died Tuesday, February 01, 2011 at Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa, NY.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 31, 1927, she was the daughter of A.Forest and Virginia (Peacock) Stainback.

She married George Wenke on June 17, 1950. He predeceased her on December 16, 2004.

Mrs Wenke was employed as a secretary with the Town of Harrietstown, the New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Trudeau Institute, and retired as claims examiner for the New York State Dept. of Labor in 1989 after 15 years. She had been a charter member of the Women's Civic Chamber and served on the Saranac Lake Central School Board for five years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women.

She is survived by two sons Richard Wenke and his wife Joanne of Saratoga Springs, NY and Robert Wenke of North Brunswick, NJ, one sister Virginia Grogan and her husband Howard of Averill Park, NY, a sister-in-law Adia Stainback of Kenneth Square, PA and four grandchildren Ashley and Sean Wenke of Monmouth Junction, NJ, and Emily and Sara Wenke of Saratoga Springs, NY. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Stainback on August 23, 1998.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday June 17, 2011 from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 Am on Saturday June 18, at the funeral home with Rev. Joanne White officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
