Carroll VanYserloo, age 86, formerly of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake died Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake where she had been a resident since 2012.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on February 01, 1928, she was the daughter of Luke and Hildegarde (Hedburg) Cronin.

Carroll moved to Saranac Lake from NYC with her mother at the age of 13, when her mother originally came to Saranac Lake to cure for TB. She attended local schools and following graduation from high school she became a nurse’s aid working at the Ray Brook State Hospital. Carroll later became an LPN and worked at the Saranac Lake General Hospital and continued on there when it became the Adirondack Medical Center for over 30 years until her retirement in 1991. She was very active in the community serving as both a Girl Scout and Boy Scout troop leader, co-founded the fresh air program in Saranac Lake with Sheila Morgan, sang in various church choirs and volunteered at the Adirondack Medical Center following her retirement. She loved to read, listen to music and putter around in her garden. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one son Vincent R. and his wife Karin of Saranac Lake, two daughters Kathleen M. VanYserloo and Beryl C. Mader and her husband David all of Saranac Lake, seven grandchildren Erik, Sarah, Carolyn, Anna, Jesse, Harmony and Jack, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one son Daniel Allen VanYserloo.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
