Jay “Zeke” Vandenburgh, Jr., age 86, of 408 State Route 186 in Lake Clear passéd away at the Adirondack Medical Center Uihlein in Lake Placid on Thursday April 29, 2010.
He was born in Tupper Lake, the son of Jay and Mayfred (DeLancett) Vandenburgh on June 14, 1923. His mother died when he was 5years old. He was then moved to Saranac Lake to live with his grandparents Ina and Gary Vandenburgh.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post 447 in Saranac Lake. He married Sandra Moody on February 19, 1972 in Lake Clear, New York. In October of 1972 he started his own business Van’s Heating Service. He retired at the end of December 1999. He loved hunting, camping and fishing. Especially fishing and camping in Canada. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and the Browns.
He was predeceased by his brother Harley, parents, grandparents and his Aunt Genevieve Simmons.
Besides his wife he is survived by two nieces Judy Cockran and Kittey Wiley and their children, two brother-in-laws Mace Moody and his wife Carolyn of Lake Clear and Reginald Moody and his wife Barb of Lake Clear and two sister-in-laws, Diana Aubin of Saranac Lake and Sue Moody of Lake Clear.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Zeke’s name to the Saranac Lake Free Library or the American Legion Post 447 or a favorite charity in care of the funeral home.
