Norman VanCour, age 71, of 89 Norman Ridge Road, Vermontville, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. NY.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 11, 1940, he was the son of Peter and Adelaide (Swinyer) VanCour.
Norman was a life long resident of the area and had worked at various places over the years, including VanCour family Dairy Farm, Green Valley Dairy Farm and 16 years at St. Bernard's School. He had also worked in logging and construction for many years. Norman was an avid hunter. He especially loved farming and gardening.
He is survived by his companion of 22 years Shirley Chesbrough of Vermontville, NY, three daughters Melissa Schweitz and her husband Jerry of Maiden, NC, Lee Ann VanCour of Vermontville, NY, and Elizabeth VanCour Goff of Bloomingdale, NY, one sister Sally Hogan and her husband Francis of Rainbow Lake, NY, four grandchildren Jackie and Eric Schweitz of Maiden, NC, and Ben and Maggie Goff of Bloomingdale, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at Union Cemetery in Vermontville at a later date to be announced.
