Douglas C. Van Weelden II, age 61, of 24 Vista Drive, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake.
Born in New York City on February 07, 1948, he was the son of Douglas and Jean (Hoyle) Van Weelden Sr. He married Gail Ward on September 21, 1968 in Nyack, NY.
Mr. Van Weelden had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1980 coming from Nyack, New York. He retired from the New York Telephone Company after 25 years of service. Mr. Van Weelden was a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club and a rabbit hunting enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife Gail, two sons Douglas Van Weelden III of Alexandria, VA, and Bruce Van Weelden and his wife Robin of Saranac Lake, NY, three grandchildren Emma Van Weelden of Saranac Lake, NY, Dean Scott Meacham of Boston, MA, and Cory Meacham of Saranac Lake, NY, two sisters Valerie McClellan and her husband Jim of Harvard, MA, and Kathy Van Weelden-Barss and her husband Steve of Wilmot, NH. He is also survived by his step-mother Joan Conway-Van Weelden of Chestertown, NY, several nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents and loyal companion Eddie.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday November 7, 2009 at St. Luke's Church in Saranac Lake.
