On Thursday, June 4, 2020 Joan Marie Ransom Ayres Tyler faced her life struggle with dignity and determination. Her family was faithful to the end in their care and love for her.
On Jan 19, 1952 she married Hubert M. Tyler Jr at the Episcopal Church in Bloomingdale. They lived most of the years in their home in Vermontville. They raised their children Terrie (Philip) Perkins, Hugh (III), and Curtis in that house.
Her grandchildren include Jason Perkins (Miriah), Ty (Hubert M. Tyler IV), Joshua Tyler, Joel Perkins (Yashi) and Kevin Tyler (Laura). She has one living sister Beatrice Brown of Bennington, VT and her “other sister" Marilyn. Her husband Sonny and two sons Hugh and Curtis predeceased her as well as two sisters Monica and Judy.
Joan had been employed most of her adult life. She was a NA at local hospitals and a waitress at Howard Johnson's. Finally, she settled on a career working with the developmentally delayed. At her retirement she was the Asst. Director at a NYS house in the area.
Joan will be remembered for her determination, feistiness, strength, loyalty and honesty. She passed these qualities on to her children. She will be remembered by her remaining family as a good example of enduring to the end. Each of her friends and relatives will always smile when they remember her “standing on her head" well past the age of sixty. One of the many amazing skills she had.
We will indeed miss her.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service will take place at 3:00 PM on Wednesday June10, 2020 at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.
