Alan “Alvin” R. Tyler, age 46, of 183 Tyler Road, Vermontville, died Friday, November 18, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Massena, New York on March 12, 1965, he was the son of Owen and Mildred (Recor) Tyler.
Alvin attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1983. He later attended North Country Community College as an English Lit. Major. Alvin had been employed by Spencer Boat Works in Saranac Lake for the past 17 years as a master craftsman and boat builder. Prior to that he had been employed at Newman and Holmes. Alvin was an avid hunter and fisherman, played rugby for the Saranac Lake Mountaineers and had traveled with them to Ireland to play. He was also an avid golfer and played regularly in the Saranac Lake Friday Night Golf League.
He is survived by his mother Mildred Tyler of Vermontville , one brother Jerry Tyler and his wife Lorraine of Youngsville, NC, two sisters Betty Gallo and her husband Charles of Lake Placid, NY, and Joyce Butterfield and her husband Richard of Keene, NH. He is also survived by one niece Tara Lounsdberry, one nephew Chad Tyler and one grand nephew Maliki Loundsberry. He is also survived by his goddaughter Lucia Patricia Hunter, daughter of Len and Felicia Hunter of Schenectady, NY. He was preceded in death by his father Owen Tyler.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, November 21, 2011 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 7:30 PM on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Drake officiating.
