Raymond Tuthill

April 23, 1923 — March 10, 2010

Raymond A. Tuthill, age 86, of 7963 NYS Route 3, Vermontville, NY died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his home following a short illness.

Born in Sugarbush, New York on April 22, 1923, he was the son of Royal and Irene (Collins) Tuthill. He married Patricia Mae Hathaway on August 25, 1949 in St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale.

Mr. Tuthill worked for Mayersons gravel pit for 10 years and Whiteface Ready Mix for 7 years. He later worked for the New York State Department of Transportation for 22 years as a foreman, retiring in 1989. Mr. Tuthill was an avid golfer and loved farming and gardening. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Pacific and European Theaters.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, three daughters JoAnn Cass and her husband Gordon of Vermontville, Brenda Farmer of Saranac Lake and Shawn Merrill and her husband Dean of Vermontville; one son Raymond Tuthill and Sharon of Syracuse; one brother Francis Tuthill of Bloomingdale; two sisters Theresa Nichols of Sugarbush and Ilean Simpson and her husband August of Bloomingdale; three grandchildren Marc Cass of Redford, Megan Nelson of Hudson Falls and Hayley Merrill of Vermontville; two great grandchildren Brant Cass of Redford and Jordyn Nelson of Hudson Falls and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, three brothers Bernard Tuthill, Herman Tuthill, and Leland Tuthill, and two sisters Marie Skiff, and Rosella Laundry.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday March 20, 2010 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in the spring.
