Michael S. Turmel, age 42, of 56 William Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Albany, New York on December 30, 1969, he was the son of Ralph and Helen (Duprey) Turmel, Jr.
Mike had been employed as the Program Manager for the Tri-Lakes Center for Independent Living. He graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1988. He later attended and graduated from North Country Community College with Business, Applied Science and Massage Therapy Degrees. He also attended and graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelors degree in History, Psychology and Philosophy. He completed his education at SUNY Albany with a Masters degree in Classical Archeology. Mike was an acting member of the White Face Mountain Masonic Lodge #789. He was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Brother and served as Master of the Lodge in 2007 and 2008. Currently he was the Lodge Historian. Mike gave many lectures at the Lodge. He loved teaching and was an Adjunct Teacher for North Country Community College at the Adirondack Correctional Facility and at FCI Ray Brook.
He is survived by his mother Helen Turmel of Saranac Lake, three step-brothers Jeffery Turmel and his wife Kim of Brookfield, WI, R. James Turmel and his wife Leigh of Spartanburg, NC, David Turmel and his wife Melissa of Albany, NY, several Aunts and Uncles including Dale Prividera of Albany, NY, Phil “Bear” and Madge Duprey of Saranac Lake, NY, Stephen Duprey of Saranac Lake, NY, Susan and William Thompson of Altamont, NY, Mary Duprey of Slingerlands, NY, Mya Duprey of Lake Clear, NY and Mario Prividera of Albany, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Turmel, Jr., his cousin Philip Michael Duprey, and his uncle Charles "Cubby" Duprey.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian Burial and Masonic Services will take place in the spring date to be announced. Burial will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
