Richard A. Trudeau, age 90, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, VT.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on September 2, 1932, he was the son of Lou and Mary (Kelley) Trudeau.
Dick attended St. Bernard’s and Saranac Lake Central Schools. He married Carolyn Helms at St. Gabriels Catholic Church on September 8, 1951 with Rev. Albert Richardson officiating.
Dick served in the New York State National Guard from 1941 to 1950. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War in France and Germany from 1953 to 1954. After returning from service he and his wife started, owned and operated Trudeau Sand and Gravel, Inc. for over 60 years. Dick loved hunting, fishing and spending his winters in Florida. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club, National Rifle Association, Port Orange Elks Club #2723 and American Legion Post 0447.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, one daughter Ellen Marie (David) Winchell of Saranac Lake, one son Mark (Norma Jean) Trudeau Saranac Lake, one daughter-in-law Donna Trudeau (Bob) Cantwell, six grandchildren, Robert Vaughn, Richard G. (Anna) Trudeau, Tanner J. (Autumn) Trudeau, Mellisa J. (Matthew) Hewitt, Mark R. (Sara Shanty) Trudeau, and Joleine Vaughn and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister-in-law Mary Ellen (Gerry) Salls and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one son Richard W. Trudeau, one brother Lew (Jo Ann) Trudeau and one sister Ann Trudeau.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday October 6, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 Pm and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday October 7, 2022 at Church of the Assumption, in Gabriels with Rev. Martin Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Town of Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
