Margaret (Peggy) A. Toohey, 83, of Mountain Lane, Saranac Lake, NY, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Adirondack Medical Center.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 17, 1931, she was the daughter of Francis and Lena (Allen) Walsh. She married Richard “Dick” Toohey October 1, 1951 in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her January 1981.
Peggy Toohey was a life long resident of Saranac Lake, NY. She retired from Crown Plaza Holiday Inn in Lake Placid. She also worked at Newberries Lunch Counter and Walsh's Cigar Store (her father's business).
Peggy was known for her friendly smile and her work with teens at the Teen Canteen, along with her mother Lena Walsh, Ethel Baker, and Mona Fobare.
Her fondest memory was being crowned Queen of the 1974 Winter Carnival, representing the town she loved.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dick Toohey, father and mother, Lena & Francis Walsh, two brothers, Francis Jr.and Jack, and sister, Mona Fobare.
Peggy is survived by her son, Michael and her daughter-in law Virginia. Her niece, Kathy Reiersen of Charlotte, NC, a sister-in-law, Eleanor Walsh and two neices, Sue Walling and Nancy Stafford of Black River, NY.
She is also survived by her dear friends, Don and Ann Fina. They are her neighbors and have been there for her for many years.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in the spring in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
