Joseph P. Thompson, age 73, of 131 Ivy Terrace, Tupper Lake, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 20, 1936, he was the son of John and Margaret (Willette) Thompson. He married Patricia Boyea on October 31, 1970.

Mr. Thompson had been employed as a meat cutter at various area grocery stores including the Grand Union, IGA, Doty's Meat Market, and P&C in Plattsburgh until his retirement in 1982 due to M.S. He is a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1958 to 1962. He was also a member and Past Commander of the Saranac Lake VFW Post 3357.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Thompson of Lake Placid, NY, three children, Joseph P. Thompson, II and his wife Wendy of Tupper Lake, NY, Heidi Thompson and her companion JR Jewtraw of Lake Placid, NY, and Jon Thompson and his wife Terra of Westport, NY, one sister Carol LaFountain of Arizona, one brother Kenneth Thompson of Gray, TN, 8 grandchildren Stephanee, Takara, Mikal, Cierra, Kellson, Katelynn, Dominic, Sadie, and Nikalus, one great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, father and mother-in-law, one brother Leon "Gaby" Thompson, and his grandson Matthew Thompson.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 from 2PM -4PM and 6PM - 8PM.. A VFW service will immediately follow at 8:00 PM followed by a funeral service. Burial will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
