Alice Thompson, age 91, of Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 01, 2013 at AMC-Mercy Center in Tupper Lake.
Born in Chateaugay, New York on February 09, 1922, she was the daughter of Roland and Myrtle (Gillett) Dumont. Alice married Donald Thompson on February 21, 1945. He predeceased her on May 24, 1994.
Alice had been employed as a bank teller for Marine Midland Bank in Saranac Lake for 35 years until her retirement in 1983. She was a charter member of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber, Ladies of the Elks BPOE 1508, and the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake. Alice also volunteered at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and the Adirondack Medical Center. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, entertaining and traveling. She especially loved camping on Lower Saranac Lake and Chateaugay Lake where she enjoyed having fun with her brother & sister in law Bill and Shirley Dumont and their family. Family was her true love. She was a loving wife who dedicated many years to caring for her husband. Her granddaughter Alicia, was the light of her life.
She is survived by one daughter Patricia “Patty” Nichols of Tupper Lake, one granddaughter Alicia Nichols of Cocoa Beach, FL, one brother William Dumont of Chateaugay and several nieces and nephews with whom she shared a very special bond. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, her brother Kimball Dumont and his wife Edna and sister-in-law Shirley Dumont.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, March 4, 2013 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Richards officiating. Burial will take place in the Harrietstown Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
