Stephen F. Thomas, age 59, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 30, 1951, he was the son of Roland and Ruth (Towner) Thomas. Stephen married Martha Ann Loomis on July 23rd 1977 in Burlington, Vt.

Stephen attended and graduated from the Severna Park High School in 1970 in Severna Park, MD. He had been employed as a carpet installer for G. Carver Rice for many years and owned and operated the CBS Furniture Store in Saranac Lake. He also had been employed at North Country Community College, was a dispatcher for the New York State Police in Ray Brook, and worked in shipping and receiving for American Management Association and Trudeau Institute. Stephen's all time favorite hobby and passion was music and playing the drums. He had played in various bands all his life including Zrimwich, Wild Root, and most notably Majors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and especially photography. He enjoyed sharing his photos with his friends on Face book. He loved spending time at their family camp on Owl Pond. Stephen's family owned and operated the Thomas Boat Livery in Saranac Lake which is rich in local history in the area and included building the Nancy Carol and operating the Miss Saranac tour boat in the 1950's and 1960's.

He is survived by his wife Martha Thomas of Saranac Lake, NY, one daughter Jennifer Lynn Thomas of Saranac Lake, NY, one sister Nancy Thomas of Voorheesville, NY, his uncle Dean Towner of Austin, TX, his niece Shyla Lamb, two nephews Eric Loomis and Leo Terhune-Loomis all of San Diego, California, and his beloved Kitty Cat Chapin. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister Carolyn Thomas.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday June 2, 2011 at funeral home with Rev. Joanne White officiating.
