John Swinyer

April 9, 1941 — August 7, 2013

John Swinyer, age 72, of 141 Swinyer Road, Vermontville, died Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family following a 10 month battle with cancer.

Born in Saranac Lake on April 09, 1941, he was the son of Francis and Edna Mae (Wright) Swinyer. John married Joyce Farrell on September 16, 1961 at the Church of the Assumption in Redford, NY.

John was a life long resident of the area. He had been employed by the Town of Franklin Highway Department for 28 years until he had to retire due to health reason in 2000. John loved camping with family at the North Branch Camp Ground in Riverview and enjoyed Archery.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Swinyer of Vermontville, NY, three sons Edward Swinyer of Vermontville, Kevin Swinyer of Magnolia, Delaware, and Scott Swinyer of Vermontville, one brother Douglas Swinyer of Vermontville, three grandchildren, Wayne Swinyer of Vermontville, Margaret Swinyer of Lake Placid and Michael Swinyer of North Dakota, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service is set to take place on Tuesday August 13, 2013 at the Union Cemetery in Vermontville. A reception will follow at the Town of Franklin Town Hall in Vermontville.
