Nora Swanson

April 14, 1925 — April 25, 2013

Nora Swanson, age 88, formerly of Bloomingdale, New York, died Thursday, April 25th, 2013 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

Born in Port Henry, New York on April 14th, 1925, she was the daughter of William Henry and Helen Gertude (Whitford) Winters. After graduating from Glens Falls High School, she at-tended the Traphagen School of Fashion in New York City, and was self-employed as a seam-stress and yard shop owner in Glens Falls, New York. In later years, she was a director at the Maple Lake Academy in Provo, Utah, prior to retiring and returning to upstate New York in 1996.

Nora immersed herself in crafts, especially knitting and quilting, and enjoyed fashioning rugs on her own antique foot loom. She was an avid outdoorswomen and hunted deer in her youth, and also loved flower gardening and cooking.

She is survived by one son, Mark Swanson of Saranac Lake, one daughter, Susan (Klein) Laffoon of Pleasant Grove, Utah, two brothers, Gerald Winters of Ballston Lake, New York and William K Winters of Edmond, Oklahoma, one sister, Ann Fox of Niskayuna, New York, six grandchildren – Heath, Jud, Seth, Luke, Dane, and Elise – and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Swanson, and her second husband, Roy Klein.

Burial arrangements were in the care of Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service took place at the convenience of the family at the Dunning Street Cemetery in Malta, New York.
