Catherine Irene Granfield Sullivan, 89, of Tupper Lake, and more recently Indianapolis, Indiana died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Westside Nursing Home in Indianapolis, IN. Born June 15, 1920 in Springfield, Mass, she was the son of William and Mary (Foley) Granfield. On April 28, 1945, she married Roger J. Sullivan in Springfield, MA.
Catherine (“Kay”) graduated as valedictorian of her class at Sacred Heart High School in Springfield, MA. Upon graduation she worked at John Hancock Insurance Company and then at Spalding Sporting Goods where she met her husband.
In 1959 she moved to Tupper Lake, NY, due to Roger’s career. There, she was active in Catholic Daughters, Girl Scouts, and the Holy Ghost Academy library. She also worked for a time as an administrative assistant at her husband’s company, O.W.D., Inc.
She is survived by her sister, Joan; two daughters, Maureen Kennelly (William J.), and Dianne Bowden (Richard K.); and five grandchildren, Margaret (fiancé, Sean Maher) and William R. Kennelly (wife, Kelly A.), and Craig (fiancé, Eleni Popomaronis), Ryan, and Emily Bowden. She is also survived by many nieces, and nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death (last January 6th) by her husband of 63 years, Roger. Three of her sisters, Helen O’Gara, Julia Granfield, and Mary Brody, also predeceased her.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 1, from 2 to 5 pm at Sampson’s Funeral Home in Springfield, MA, and Sunday, January 3, from 4 to 7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
