Thomas Dwight Strack, age 61, of 653 County Route 60, Rainbow Lake, died Monday, September 08, 2008 at his home following a long illness.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 12, 1947, he was the son of James and Helen (Minney) Strack. He married Jo Ann Tilliets on October 21, 1995 in Saranac Lake by Hon Thomas Glover.
Tom was a life long resident of the area. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. He later served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1982 to 1990, He is a life member of the American Legion Post 447 Saranac Lake, Life member Albert A. Gonyea VFW Post 3357 Saranac Lake, past Franklin County Commander of the American Legion, and is a member of the Saranac Lake Elks Club BPOE 1508. He loves to golf, collects salt and pepper shakers, eagles, knives and swords. He also loves to play cards with family and likes to bake from "scratch" (His wife still hasn't found anything like it in stores). Tom also worked as a taxi driver for 10 years in the Tri-lakes area.
He is survived by his wife Jo Ann Strack of Rainbow Lake, NY, one son Thomas Strack and his wife Melanie of Saranac Lake, NY, one daughter Lynette Ann LaMora and her husband Michael of Saranac Lake, NY, two step sons Matthew Dushane of Lake Placid, NY and Mark Dushane of Louisiana, two sister Mya Louise Duprey of Saranac Lake, NY and Dawn Aleta Boula of Bloomingdale, NY, five brothers Gerald J Strack of Lake Clear, NY, Wesley H. Strack of Lake Clear, NY, Edward L. Strack of Phoenix, AZ, Richard J. Strack of Wappinger Falls, NY, and Eugene D. Strack of Saranac Lake, NY, 10 Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one step-son Brian Freer, and his oldest brother George Strack.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 1PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. An Elks Memorial service will take place Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM. A veteran’s service will take place at Wednesday evening at 8:45 PM. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Following cremation burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Saturday September 13, 2008 in St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear, New York with Military Honors.
