Alma Jean Stevens (Peppard), July 28, 1933- October 26, 2022, Passed at home in Lake Clear in her 90th year. Born in Buffalo, New York, July 28, 1933, Alma Jean attended Holy Spirit School and Parish and graduated from Mount St Mary Academy High School in 1952. After working 2 years at S.M. Flickingers in Buffalo, she spent 32 years at New York Telephone (Verizon) in various secretarial and later leadership roles, her favorite being her last- Community Contributions (helping to give away the company’s money) before retiring in April, 1988. She continued to work at various jobs until moving to Canada for three years with her daughter followed by nine years in the better weather of South Carolina. Moving to Saranac Lake in 2018, she loved the beauty of The Adirondacks and remained particularly grateful for her friends from all over, writing letters and keeping in touch.

Alma Jean was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Bertha Peppard, her siblings Franklin Peppard, Dorothy Fischle (Edward), Edna Linehan (John T.) and Robert S. Peppard (Leah Miller), niece Jean Nielson and nephew John Linehan.

She is survived by 9 other nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Jane Peppard and her loving daughter, Kristin M. Stevens (Vanessa Patterson) and her family- Connor and Caroline Patterson, their daughter Greta, Sean Patterson and Jessica Trotter.

Alma Jean wishes to thank her many and dear friends and friends of Bill W. for kindnesses shown, prayers, calls and encouragement. Much appreciation from Kristin and Jean to High Peaks Hospice, The Inghams, The Halls, The Martins, Luanne Farmer and Izzy Lanthier for care given in Lake Clear.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday November 4, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Bernard’s Church with the Reverend Martin Cline officiating. In lieu of flowers, family and friends wishing to remember Alma Jean Stevens, are asked to please consider a donation to The Humane Society near you, Mercy Care of The Adirondacks or an early literacy program or Veterans Association of your choosing in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Alma Jean loved helping children read and learn and ever appreciated those who have fought for democracy and our collectively enjoyed freedoms.
