Alice Stevens

Alice May Stevens, 74, of Saranac Lake, passed away on Monday February 19, 2018 surrounded by family in Burlington, Vermont.

Born on September 22, 1943 in Rochester, NY; she was the daughter of George Alfred Lincoln and Leta May Moody Lincoln.

She was a Saranac Lake High School alumna after which she attended college and cosmology school. Alice was a homemaker, member of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church is where you could at times enjoy her soprano voice and she loved sharing it.

Alice loved life, lived it to its fullest, had no regrets and her greatest joys being her children and grandchildren.

As a teenager she was a figure skater and skated on the Arthur Godfrey Show. She also had many other talents – floral arranging, bonsai, crocheting and knitting, cooking and her passion of genealogy. Alice was very proud of the fact that her roots were deeply planted in Saranac Lake. She was the great, great-granddaughter of Jacob Smith Moody who settled Saranac Lake. She traced her family tree back as far as 910AD. Her love of travel was helped with her husband Dennis’ military service; living in California, Japan, Virginia, Texas, New York and visiting others. She will be remembered by many for her love of animals especially dogs and deer and her selfless acts of service either planned or spur of the moment. One of Alice’s acts of service was slippers that she knit and gave away. At the time of her death she had completed 752 pairs. She was happiest when surrounded with her family and friends.

Alice’s memories will live on and be cherished by her large family: Renee’ (Johnathan) Sykes of Geneseo, Carmen (Bill) Wainwright of Saranac Lake, Kimberley Stevens of North Carolina, Edward Stevens of Idaho, Eric (Sandee) Stevens of Ballston Lake, Keith Stevens Saranac Lake and Jason Stevens of Clifton Park; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 8 brother & sister in laws; and a step mother in law Elaine Stevens. Also, many, many nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dennis W Stevens, her parents, sisters Betty L Short, Winifred C Lincoln and a brother Edward G Lincoln.

Calling hours will be Wednesday February 28th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will be on Thursday March 1st at 11AM at the funeral home.
