Eleanor M. Stearns, age 95, of Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid died Thursday December 26, 2019 at Elderwood of Uihlein.

Eleanor was born on July 11, 1924 in Saranac Lake, NY the daughter of Herman and Eva (Lawless) Rice. Eleanor married Francis “Red” Stearns on July 13, 1941 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Red predeceased Eleanor on July 19, 1998.

Eleanor was an amazing woman who lived life fully. She was employed as a bookkeeper for many years for Dr. Passarro in Saranac Lake until her retirement in 1994. She was an avid reader and loved to sew, knit and do needle work.

Eleanor is survived by her daughters: Karen Stearns of Saranac Lake and Jill Woodruff (Ron Zarzyzki) of Lake Placid, and her son Walter Alan Stearns (Jamie) of Penfield, NY, and her daughter-in-Law Susan of Ontario, NY. She is also survived by several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, mother and father, Eleanor was predeceased by her daughter Madge Carpenter and her son Scott Stearns, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. At Eleanor’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 in Eleanor’s memory.
