Roy St. John

Roy W. St. John, age 87, of Gabriels, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Plattsburgh, New York on May 29, 1925, he was the son of William and Lillian (Depo) St. John. Roy married Jeanne Gauvin in Newcomb, New York in 1953. She predeceased him on September 10, 2012.

Roy attended Plattsburgh High School and graduated from Quadi Air Training School in Quadi, Me.

Roy worked for the 331st Army Div. in 1942 in aviation and hydraulics at Bradley Field in Conn. Roy enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 where he completed courses at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Chicago, IL. He became an aviation machinist mate in 1944. He was then transferred to Alameda, CA where he worked on maintenance and repair of aircraft hydraulic equipment. After his discharge in 1946 he worked at several jobs. He has been an electrician for most of his life as well as serving as a law enforcement officer for the Clinton County Sheriffs Department, Plattsburgh City Police Department and was a New York State Trooper when he retired.

He is survived by one sons Thomas St. John of Millinocket, ME, one grandson Andrew St. John of Los Angeles, CA , 2 great granddaughters, and 2 Great-Great Granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one granddaughter Sabrina, and one brother Glen St. John.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday October 2, 2012 at Church of the Assumption in Gabriels. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at Church of the Assumption at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh at a later date.
