Helen Snickles

Helen E. Snickles, age 89, of 45 Main Street, Bloomingdale, died Thursday, March 29, 2012 at her home.

Born in Lake Placid, New York on June 20, 1922, she was the daughter of Ira and Mary (Banker) Winch. Helen married Elwood Snickles on May 18, 1941 in Lake Placid, NY. He predeceased her in 1994.

Mrs. Snickles had been a life-long resident of the area. Besides raising twelve children she worked as a chambermaid for area motels and worked as a Nurses Aid at Uihlein Mercy Center for 20 years until her retirement in 1987. She enjoyed cooking, reading and sewing.

She is survived by 11 children Gary Snickles and his wife Ruth of Vermontville, Beverly McCoy of Vermontville, Robert Snickles and his companion Sharalon Shatraw of Bloomingdale, Valerie Burnah of Bloomingdale, David Snickles and his companion Jeanne of Vermontville, Cynthia Buxton and her husband Randall of Vermontville, Lorna Snickles of Bloomingdale, Brian Snickles of Loon Lake, Mary Coats and her husband Roland of Henderson, NC, Linda Dougan and her husband James of Port Kent, NY, and Cheryl LeClerc and her husband Brent of Syracuse, New York, 21 grandchildren , 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one son Douglas Snickles, and nine brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Snickles family will receive friends on Monday April 2, 2012 from 11:00 Am to 12:00 PM at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery at a later date.
