John “Jack” Howard Smith, 81 of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford, N.Y. near the home of his sister Donna Hart.
Jack was born in Saranac Lake, December 23, 1933 the son of the late Oliver and Mary Fletcher Smith. He was married to the late Joann Curry.
Jack was raised in Saranac Lake and served in the U.S. Army. Jack owned the 3 J’s Country Store in Lake Clear, N.Y. He was an avid N.Y. Giants Fan and loved the outdoors. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by a son Josh Smith of Henderson Nevada, a brother, Joseph Smith of Gaston, S.C. and sisters Donna Hart of Utica, N.Y., Beverly Groth of Hilton, N.Y., Diana Shumway of Branford, Ct. and several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his brother Oliver Smith and sisters Dorothy Naegele, Patricia Howe, Shirley Lamas and Joan Neese.
Calling hours will take place on Saturday January 31, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Fortune- Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at St. Bernard’s Church, 27 St. Bernard Street, Saranac Lake. Burial will take place at in St. Paul’s Cemetery in the spring.
