Kathleen Smart

Kathleen Ruth Smart, age 66, of 45 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at home.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on December 04, 1941, she was the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Bancker) Meehan.

She married Matthew Timothy Smart on August 18, 2002 in Saranac Lake. She was predeceased by her former husband George LaMay in 2007.

Kathleen was a life long resident of Saranac Lake. She attended and graduated form Saranac Lake High School and later attended and graduated from Plattsburgh State College with her teaching degree. She worked for the Saranac Lake Central School District for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999. She had also volunteered at St. Bernard's School in the Library. Kathleen loved to read, travel and going out with her friends. She cherished her poet club meetings on Friday afternoons. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor which was always one of her best traits. She was always very positive and upbeat and loved her family very much.

She is survived by her husband Matthew Timothy Smart of Saranac Lake, NY, two sons Ned LaMay of Monroe, NY, and Brian LaMay and his wife Liza of Utica, NY; three grandchildren Brandon, Jordan, and Cameron LaMay; one sister Marie Tiblis of Lake Placid, NY; one brother Thomas Meehan, Jr. of Dahlonega, GA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place Thursday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday October 3, 2008 at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
