TUPPER LAKE- Marion Slingerland,83, died Tuesday, August 17, at the AMC Mercy Center in Tupper Lake where she had resided since May. Born November 27, 1926 in Tupper Lake, NY she was the daughter of Thomas K. and Violet (Mayville)Somers.
Marion was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School and attended college in Central New York. After raising her family she went back to College and received her Nursing Degree from State University of New York. She worked as a Nurse for many years at Tupper Lake Mercy Hospital primarily as the head nurse on the evening shift and also worked as a nurse at the Saranac Lake Hospital. In her earlier years she was an avid Golfer and was on a women’s league. She also was a Bowler and was on a league. She was a skier and liked to ride snow mobiles. She was a past president of the Tupper Lake Business and Professional Women’s Club. More recently she liked to read and keep up to date with the CNN news. The past couple of years her health started to decline requiring specialized care resulting in her becoming a patient at the same facility where she used to be a nurse. She loved the Adirondacks with the mountains and trees, rivers, streams and lakes; fall was her favorite time of the year.
Marion is survived by her children: George Robinson and wife Marie of Tupper Lake, NY and Jim Robinson and wife Linda of Baldwinsville, NY. Grandsons: George Robinson Jr., Eric Robinson, and Ethan Robinson. Brothers Mert Somers and wife Edna of Virginia and Tom Somers and wife CJ of Florida.
Marion was a special little lady who will be missed by her family and friends and especially missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the St Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake on August 21, 2010 at 11:00. Arrangements were made through the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake, NY.
