Michael died from complications of Lymphoma on Tuesday, October 24 at his home in Sugar Bush, NY. He moved to the Adirondacks in 2018 and enjoyed paddling his Hornbeck canoe, skiing, snowshoeing, keeping bees and making maple syrup.

Michael was born in San Francisco, California on November 11, 1940 to Dorothy and Stanley Sinclair. He graduated cum laude from St. Mary’s College and received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco in 1966. He completed his general surgery residency at UCLA-Harbor General Hospital in 1974 and his cardiothoracic residency at New England Medical Center Hospital, Massachusetts in 1978. Michael was a cardiothoracic surgeon at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA from 1979-2007. While practicing at LVH he also was a visiting cardiac surgeon at Dubrava Hospital University of Zagreb, Croatia from 1995-1997. Michael had great interest in international surgery and worked intermittently abroad from 1969-2017 in areas of Africa, Central America, Asia, and the Middle East. His most recent position held was as a general and thoracic surgeon and instructor in surgery at Central Hospital University Butare, Rwanda from 2015-2017. In his spare time, Michael was an avid mountain climber with many assents around the world including Mt. Everest in 1993.

Michael is survived by his wife of 25 years, Phyllis Sinclair, of Sugar Bush, NY. He has three children from a previous marriage to Theresa Sinclair of Orefield, PA. Hoonani Cuadrado of Schnecksville, PA, Luke Sinclair of Petersburg, AK, and Mark Sinclair of Whitehall, MT. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Jonalyn Zuzelski of Bend, Oregon. Grandchildren Austin Cope and Kela Cope of Houston, TX, Maria Sofia Sinclair of Whitehall, MT and stepgranddaughter Charlize Caudrado of Allentown, PA . Great-granddaughter Kai of Houston, TX. Michael has two surviving siblings Barbara Quinn of San Francisco, CA and Dan Sinclair of Ione, CA.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. No services will be held. Donations can be made to Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad and Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Company.

Michael will always be remembered as a dedicated surgeon, selfless humanitarian, and loving father, grandfather, and husband.
