Barbara Simonson

Barbara A. Simonson, age 69, of 1729 State Route 86, Saranac Lake, died Friday, November 25, 2016 at the Adirondack Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 14, 1947, she was the daughter of Gerald and Viola (Cooper) Sutherland.

Barbara owned and operated Dusty Cabins in Saranac Lake for many years. She attended and graduated from North Country Community College with an Associate’s degree in Business Management in 1996. In addition to running Dusty’s Cabins she worked at various jobs including working at the Lake Clear School, Saranac Lake High School, Uihlein Mercy Center and the Adirondack ARC. She was a past member of the Saranac Lake Veterans Memorial Association, Purple Hats Society and the Saranac Lake Adult Center.

She is survived by 8 children Lisa Simonson of Saranac Lake, Allison Simonson of Saranac Lake, Robert Simonson, Jr. of Saranac Lake, Margaret Gagnon of Long Island, Keith Simonson of Long Island, Jerry Hatch of Long Island, Erin Danziger of Long Island, NY, William Simonson of Sabastian, FL, one sister Edith Cammartta of Long Island, one bother Edward Sutherland of Long Island, 15 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, her husband Robert Simonson, her companion Ralph Babe Blanchard, two sisters Helen and Audrey and one brother Robert, two grandchildren Kyle and Duncan and one great grandson Jamison.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. A reception will be held at Dechatel community room from 3:30 to 7:30.
