Michael Simmons

Michael Eugene Simmons passed away in his home on Sunday, February 25th 2024 in Saranac Lake.

Michael was born in New York City on May 29th 1953 to John and Jessica Simmons. He first arrived in the Adirondacks in the early 1970s after his mother, a corrections officer, purchased a home in the Tri-Lake area after being transferred to ADK Correctional facility. While his little brother attended school at Petrova, he helped his mother settle into the area. He made the permanent move from Brooklyn, New York to Saranac Lake in the late 1980s.

In the 1990s, He worked at Pizza Hut in Lake Placid and eventually as part of the maintenance staff at Adirondack Medical Center before experiencing an on the job injury. After his mother, sister and her kids moved permanently to Saranac Lake in 1994, he was vital in helping to raise and care for them.

Michael had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was often the life of the party. He enjoyed drinking, cooking and entertaining with his friends. He maintained a positive attitude and outlook in spite of his health issues in recent years. He was a great storyteller and movie buff. He loved cats and dogs, even though he was badly allergic to both. He loved camping and fishing as past times that he would share with his family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father John, sister Tamara, brother Derek and daughter Shareda. He is survived by his mother Jessica, nieces Jatera and Alima, grand nephew Tyshaun, great niece Harley and great nephew Malcolm.

Funeral arrangements are in care of Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. There will be no calling hours.
