Viola M. Shumway, age 82, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.
Born in Vermontville, New York on April 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Elmer "Red" and Clara M. (Shene) Bova. Viola married Charles Shumway in 1958 at the Church of the Nazarene in Vermontville.
Mrs. Shumway is a lifelong resident of the Saranac Lake area and had worked at Uihlein Mercy Center for over 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Vermontville.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Charles Shumway of Saranac Lake, two daughters Dianna (Rick) Silver of Bloomingdale, and Joanne (Larry) Strack of Saranac Lake, one sone Gerald Shumway of New Hampshire, two grandsons Corey and Dylan Strack of Saranac Lake, one sister Joyce Euber of Vermontville and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one daughter and six brothers William "Johnny", Edward, Joseph, Roy, Bernard, and James "Jimmy" Bova.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 7PM – 8:30 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 8:30 P.M. with Rev. Kenneth Mihill officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Vermontville in the spring.
