Darwin B. Shumway, age 68, of 52 Roosevelt Lane, Bloomingdale, died Sunday, March 03, 2013 at his home.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 27, 1944, he was the son of Daniel and Fontabelle (Palmer) Shumway. Darwin married Lillian Henderson August 28, 1971 in Camden, New York.
Darwin had been employed by the Saranac Lake Central School in the Maintenance department for 40 years from 1968 to 2008until his retirement in 2009. He was a member of the New York State National Guard for 20 years and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Darwin especially enjoyed working in his gardens and hunting.
He is survived by his wife Lillian of Bloomingdale, one son Nathan Shumway of Dickenson, one daughter Rebecca Shumway of Courtland, one brother Rev. Daniel Shumway of Bloomingdale and one sister Sharron Craig of Pulaski. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one sister Lorraine.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday Mary 7, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 – 7:30 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow on Thursday at 7:30 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Case officiating. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale in the spring.
