Robert Sheppard

Robert Shares Sheppard (95), Tupper Lake, passed away on April 28, 2013 after a long illness.

He was born on November 4, 1917 in Syracuse, NY. He was the only child of Floyd H. and Beulah (Shares) Sheppard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Alice (Somers) and a grandson, Adam J. Sheppard. He is survived by his 2nd wife Jeannette (Pardy) Davis in Saranac Lake, NY; sons Roger (Sandy) in Blacksburg, VA, Curtis (Ruth Ann) in Doylestown, OH, Bruce (Carla Christensen) in Salem, OR; 2 stepdaughters, Patricia (Gerald) Gillmett in Lake Clear, NY, Carol (John) Niederbuhl in Bloomingdale, NY; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 nieces.

Robert graduated from Syracuse University in 1940 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and from the University of Akron in 1953 with a MS in Chemistry. At Syracuse University he was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Mu Epsilon honor societies. He worked for PPG Industries in Barberton, OH as a research chemist for 37 years before he retired in 1980. He was a veteran of the HQ. Co., 1st Battalion, 108th Infantry, NY National Guard from 1935-39.

He was a resident of Doylestown, OH for over 50 years where he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Lions Club. He served the church as a Sunday school teacher and Boy Scout leader. He had many interests throughout his life including amateur radio for over 75 years, bowling, stamp collecting, reading, genealogy, gardening, and photography. In addition to his family, the greatest joy in his life was fishing which he enjoyed sharing with his friends, sons and grandchildren.

Burial and a memorial service will be in Doylestown, OH on May 18. Memorial contributions can be made to Child Fund International, 2821 Emerywood Parkway, Richmond, Virginia 23294.
