TUPPER LAKE- Ellen Shaw,86, formerly of Tupper Lake, died Thursday April 15 at the Highland nursing home in Massena. Born on July 25, 1923 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Paul and Ernestine (Bisson) Martin. Ellen was a graduate of Holy Ghost Academy, she went on to continue her education at Marywood college in Philadelphia and received a BA from St. Lawrence University. She was married to James Shaw of Coreys and raised their family in Tupper Lake. Ellen was a social worker at Mercy General Hospital and later operated Shaw's Crafts and hobbies on Park St. in Tupper Lake. Ellen loved camping with family at Stoney Creek pond along with fishing and snowmobiling. An avid boater, she always looked forward to little excursions to explore area lakes with friends on their party barge. She belonged to a knitting club and enjoyed socializing at the Adirondack Adult Center. She is survived by one daughter Susan Cooley and her husband Garry of Uncasville, CT., three sons, James and his wife Becky of Massena and Tupper Lake, Stuart and his wife Marlene of Central Valley, PA., John and his wife Linda of Tupper Lake, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by one sister Louise Quinn. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 19 from 6 to 8 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
