Obituary Notice
Jeannette V. Shatraw, 89, of Saranac Lake, died at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake on Tuesday October 25, 2011.
She was born on April 24, 1922 in Saranac Lake to Edna and David (Dubrey) VanNortwick.
Mrs. Shatraw graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1939, and married Herbert A. Shatraw, Jr. of Saranac Lake in 1943 before he went abroad for Service in World War II. Jeannette worked at Montgomery Ward, Parnell's Shoe Store, and the Town and Country Clothing Store in Saranac Lake. She was a member of St. Bernard's Parish and
also served at the Voting Polls. She was a familiar voice on the phone for "Shatraw's TV" for decades, was often seen in her gardens overlooking Lake Flower, and was above all devoted to her family with extraordinary generosity of heart and home.
She is survived by her daughter Martha Primmer and son Stephen Shatraw of Saranac Lake, her grandchildren Anne Warner, Brandon Shatraw, Marcie Dann, Seth Shatraw, and Kailei Minnie, six great grand-children , her sisters-in- law Doris Shatraw, Rose VanNortwick, and Edith VanNortwick, and by-many nieces and nephews.
Jeannette was predeceased by her beloved husband Herb and all of her siblings, Quentin, Daniel, Gordon, Archibald, and Miles (Sr.) VanNortwick, Bernadine Gilfoy, Geraldine Hubers, and Beulah McGann.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Resurrection will be offered for her and to celebrate her life on Friday October 28, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac. Burial will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
