Doris Shatraw

Doris Yelle Shatraw, Age 98, of Saranac Lake, NY died Sunday June 6, 2021 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid following a short illness.

Doris was born in January 8, 1923 in Carthage, NY the daughter of Hattie (Miner) and Edward Yelle.

Mrs. Shartraw came to Saranac Lake at the age of 9, and was a graduate of Saranac Lake High School. She worked for Franklin County Social Services and worked for the New York State Department of Health for 30 years, as secretary and clerical supervisor retiring in 1983.

Doris was married in 1946 to Malcolm C. Shatraw who predeceased her in 1996. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shatraw was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church, was a member of their Choir, and served as Eucharistic Minister and as a volunteer in various capacities. She was a member of the Saranac Lake Golf Club, the women’s bowling league, took years of Piano Lessons and was a volunteer in the High Peaks Hospice Office.

Funeral Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Doris’s request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday June 10, 2021 at 12:00pm at St. Bernard’s Church with the Reverend Martin Cline Officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake, NY. For those not able to attend, Fortune-Keough Funeral Home will livestream the service which can be viewed on the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home Facebook page.
