Gladys May Stacey Shaheen passed away Friday morning at the age of 78. She lived her life as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. With her daughter by her side, she left the world in peace.
Born in Saranac Lake on October 31st, 1933 to the late Howard and Florida(Rushia) Stacey. Gladys lived in Saranac Lake with her 6 brothers and 2 sisters for most of her younger life. William, Francis, Howard, Harold, Wilfred, Earl and Joyce Stacey Morin all of which have passed on. She leaves behind her older sister Catherine Stacey Folino of Staten Island.
Gladys married the late Shaheen J. Shaheen on November 30, 1950 at St. Bernard‘s church in Saranac Lake. After their wedding they moved to Tupper Lake to make their home and start their life together.
They had three children , Joseph of Deland, FL, and Thomas and Catharine both of Tupper Lake. On August 21, 1980 Gladys lost her husband to cancer. A few months before his passing they saw the birth of the first of 3 grandchildren. Theodore LaMere and his wife Andrea, Kristin LaMere and Shaheen Ryan Shaheen all of Tupper Lake. She also has two great grandchildren, Tyler Clark and Lauren LaMere. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Gladys was an incredible women full of spunk and life whenever anyone had the pleasure of being around her. She will be greatly missed by not only her family but many others who have had the opportunity to know her.
A Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday January 11, 2012 at St. Alphonsus Church with a small gathering at the Knights of Columbus following the service. Anyone wishing to pay their respects are welcome to attend. Donations can be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad or Tupper Lake Fire Department. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-keough Funeral home.
