Guy Schweizer

March 16, 1952 — March 4, 2023

Guy Thomas Schweizer, age 70, passed away on Saturday March 4, 2023 at his home in Lake Clear, NY surrounded by his family.

Born in Nyack, NY on March 16, 1952, he was the son of Robert Schweizer and June (Delo) Siewertsen. Guy married Sarah (Sally) Chapin on September 5, 1981 in Saranac Lake.

Guy served in Vietnam in the Marine Corp directly out of High School. He returned home and spent time in the logging industry, where he started to develop an idea for his own business, Schweizer Construction, which he ran with his wife until her passing after almost 40 years of marriage, and then following with his daughter and son-in-law.

Guy was a skilled contractor, his work can be found all over the Tri-lakes in both private and public buildings and structures; A favorite project being a part of the crew who restored the Lower Saranac Lake Locks. Not only was he a master builder, he was a master of many things and could hold down a conversation on any topic with anyone, and probably teach you something about it.

Many hours were spent in his large and extensive garden, and when he wasn’t actually working in it, he was reading about it, ordering seeds for it, or answering questions about how to do it. His harvest fed his large extended family, his friends, and probably anyone that dropped by the Belvedere on a Friday afternoon. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed many years hunting, fishing and at Camp “Two Tree” where he and his friends might partake in “two, tree beers”.

Most of all, Guy was a family man and a friend to many. He easily built relationships (both human and animal – he always had a dog in tow). He was authentic, honest and could keep an audience just with the stories of his life and experiences. He had a laugh like no other, and it’s safe to say there will never be another person like him. His girls and his grandkids were the light of his life and he was always working to provide the best life he possibly could for them all.

Guy is survived by his daughters: Jill (Dustin) Ulrich of Lake Placid, and Molly (Tye) Woodruff of Lake Clear. His siblings: Carey Sayles of Lake Clear, Dale (Vinnie) Schweizer of Yorktown Heights and Jan O’Hara of Middleburg, PA. His grandchildren: Breck, Tessa, Tullie and Taelyn, and several in-laws who were more like siblings, and nieces and nephews who were more like children. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and love of his life, Sally. Also, his brother Harry Schweizer, brother-in-law Ricky Sayles, one niece Carly Chapin and his lifelong best friend, Timmy Peria.

In lieu of flowers and donations, please do your best to make someone laugh today, whether it be an off-colored story, a dirty joke or a funny memory – tell it and have a laugh in memory of Guy.
