Rose H. Schoonmaker, age 91, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Adirondack Medical Center.
Born in Shandaken, New York on January 18, 1922, she was the daughter of Marvin and Harriet (Rosa) Bussy. Rose married Ralph Olena. She later remarried Charlie Schoonmaker who predeceased her.
Rose had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1983 and been employed as a Home Health aid for North Country Home Services for many years until her retirement. Prior to that Rose had lived in Arkville, NY where she owned and operated various restaurants and a hotel at different times over several years including the Arkvilla Restaurant and Bar, Kelly Hotel and the Bun and Cone Dinner. Rose was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Lady Shriners.
She is survived by two grandchildren Ralph Hill and his wife Pamela of Troy, and Melissa Barry and her husband Craig of Saranac Lake, three great grandchildren Cody and Austin Berry of Saranac Lake, and Patrick Hill of Troy, NY, and one sister Nedra Rigaboni of Arkville, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one daughter Donna Hill and her sister Marie Reynolds.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday November 3, 2013 at Church of St. Luke the Beloved Physician, with Rev. Ann Gaillard officiating.
