Valentina (Tina) Anne Scammell, formerly of Southampton passed away from natural causes on March 30, 2020.
Born in Southampton on February 20, 1939, Tina was the only child of Benjamin and Rose (Buttonow) Zebrowski. She graduated from Southampton High School and attended Roosevelt School of Nursing in New York City.
Her professional career was varied and interesting. She entered the real estate field in the 1980s and was nominated for business woman of the year while with Meadow Realty. She continued to found two companies, Tina Scammell Realty and an event coordination company she called SandCastle Productions. During this time, Tina and her friends held court at Barristers on Main Street and her gregarious, energetic and generous spirt was fully evident.
She loved helping and working with people throughout her life. She was proud of her work as an advanced emergency medical technician and she was a driving force in the creation of the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance. Still in operation today, the SVVA has helped thousands of residents and visitors receive emergency care. She also donated considerable volunteer hours at Southampton Hospital.
Tina eventually moved north to be close to her oldest daughter and she settled in Saranac Lake. In the 1970’s when living in Saranac Lake, Tina organized Saranac Lake’s first women’s softball league, which is still going strong today. She loved the Adirondacks in her later life as much as she loved the beaches of Southampton.
Throughout her life Tina had a passion for many things including her dogs, piano playing, painting and arts and crafts. She enjoyed dog agility training with her dogs, Chica and Chloe, and together they won many awards.
She is survived by her three children, Liz (Ray Murray), Kelly (George Arents Humphreys, deceased) and Donald (Heather) and two grandchildren, Daniel and Gage Scammell. Her family and friends will miss her far more than she would ever imagined.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Friends wishing to remember Valentina A. Scammell may make memorial contributions to the Tri Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
