Grace Savard, 97, passed away on September 14, 2012.
She was born on May 27, 1915 in Tupper Lake, NY, where she lived for 95 years. She spent the last 2 years living in Manchester, NH with her daughter, Barbara. Grace was the eighth of ten children born to Alexina LeGeault LaValley and Duchere LaValley.
She left Tupper Lake High School to work at the Oval Wood Dish, where she was a member of the women's traveling basketball team. She married Frederick (Buck) Savard, her childhood sweetheart, on November 10, 1934. Together they built and operated Sunset Park Motel from 1950 to 1972. When they retired, they divided their time between Jensen Beach, FL and their home at 57 Demars Blvd in Tupper Lake. Grace was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed countless hours pursuing her craft. Many homes are graced with her Ragged Anne and Andy dolls, her Bunny dolls, or her Humphry dogs. She was an avid walker and many people in town knew her as “the woman who walked the boulevard”. She prided herself in the fact that she mowed her own lawn until the age of 84. It was a common site to see her sweeping the street and sidewalk in front of her home on Demars Blvd in the wee hours of the morning in an attempt to keep back the sands of Raquette Pond. She loved to bake muffins and cookies which she shared generously with her neighbors.
Grace is survived by three daughters - Barbara Lantiegne of Manchester, NH, Althea and her husband, Sherdan Boushie, of Manlius, NY and Carol and her husband Gary Plumley, of Jensen Beach, FL. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, her sister Beatrice Bradley of Norwich, VT and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Buck, in May 1988. She was also predeceased by her parents, her brothers Albert, Rene, William, Meddie, Earnest and Fred and her sisters Blanche Doumoulin and Bertha LaPlant.
