Elois Delia Sanford, age 89, of 30 Lafayette Street, Tupper Lake, died Monday, August 08, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in St Regis Falls, NY on June 23, 1922, she was the daughter of Wendall and Harriet (Peck) Patraw. She married Lawrence Sanford on July 11, 1943 in St. Regis Falls, New York. He predeceased her on August 9, 1992.
Elois attended and graduated from St. Regis Falls High School in 1940. Before she married, she had worked for her Aunt in Potsdam, NY who operated a boarding house for 42 Clarkson University College students. Following her marriage to Lawrence she worked as a caretaker with her husband at the Kildare Club in Tupper Lake, New York for 44 1/2 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years as well as a member of the Tupper Lake Baptist Chapel.
She is survived by one daughter Susan Sanford and her long time companion Skip Keniston of Tupper Lake, two brothers: Eugene Patraw and his wife Barbara of Potsdam and Roy Patraw and his wife Elaine of Waddington; two sisters Edna Price of Tupper Lake and Helen Palmer of Potsdam, two grandsons Craig Sanford and his wife Traci of Tupper Lake, NY and Donald Sanford and his wife Rebecca of Tupper Lake, five great grandchildren Eastynn, Wyatt, Matthew and his wife Ruthie, Emily and Samantha, one great-great granddaughter Isabella and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother William Patraw.
Calling hours are tentatively set to take place at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 2-4 PM. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday August 15, 2011 at the Tupper Lake Baptist Chapel, with Rev. Richard Wilburn officiating followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus. Burial will take place at 3:30 PM on Monday at Fairview Cemetery in Dickinson Center.
