Lawrence (Squirrely) Root Sr. , 75 of Tupper Lake, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in Lady Lakes, Florida. Born on August 23, 1936 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Ernest Sr. and Mary (Bishop) Root. Larry graduated from Tupper Lake High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps., he was honorably discharged after eight years of service. Upon his return, he worked for many years as Assistant manager of the A&P store in Tupper Lake. He also worked many years as a police dispatcher and Day's Wholesale. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Larry enjoyed reading, watching football (NY Giants) and spending time at his Florida home. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with family & friends. He is survived by his wife Reta of 39 years, four sons; Larry Jr. and his wife Sharon, Joel, Wilfred, Jason and his wife Lisa, one daughter, Barbara Godin and her husband Steve. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Nicholas, Brandon, Ryan, Morgan, Braedon, Kristin, Kelsea and Alex, one great-grandson, Eli. Three sisters; Betty Leroux, Colleen Girouard and Grace LaSarso. He was pre-deceased by his parents, nine brothers; Frances, Donald, Dennis, Ernest, Jr., Thomas, William, Maurice, Kenneth and Clarence, five sisters; Noreen Conley, Katherine Holley, Eleanor Rickborn, Patricia Root and Margaret Sullivan. Calling hours are scheduled for Saturday, May 12th from 1 - 4 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home, with a service being held at 3:15. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery at a later date. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad.
