PAUL SMITHS -Edward W. Rogers, of Paul Smiths, passed away on Aug. 11, 2011.

Born in Beverly, Mass. on Dec. 8, 1928, he lived in Essex, Manchester by the Sea and Hamilton, Mass., before settling in Paul Smiths.

Edward had been a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was a manufacturer's rep for sporting goods and was responsible for introducing Puma sneakers to New England and northern New York state.

Ed was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and was passionate about fly fishing. He patented Nevasink Dry Fly spray.

He loved the Essex, Mass. salt marsh, where he enjoyed duck hunting, flounder fishing and clam digging. He devoted his later years to writing about his experiences, especially his forest service, firefighting the Kootenai forest fire of 1946. His book of stories will be published soon.

Edward leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Marilyn (Hayden) Rogers; his children: Sue Rogers of Proctorsville, Vt., Edward Rogers Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Ted Rogers of Clinton, Mont., and Tracy Santagate of Paul Smiths; his grandchildren Cori and Levi Santagate of Paul Smiths and Justin and Jonathan Rogers of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Ed's beloved cat and companion, Abby.
