Helen E. Rock, age 89, of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, April 16, 2017 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Malone, New York on April 11, 1928, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Theresa (Sussey) Gonyea. Helen married Clarence Rock in Saranac Lake in 1975. He predeceased her in 1993.
Hlen worked at the Saranac Lake General Hospital until her retirement. Prior to that she had worked at the Will Rogers Hospital, Tuberculosis Cottages, the Lawrence Boarding House and the Belvedere Restaurant. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and L.I.F.T. Helen had been a resident of Uihlein for last few years where she met and made many close friendships. She especially loved to do arts and crafts in recent years.
She is survived by one son Paul Gonyea of Rome, four grandchildren Jason Colby, Benjamin Gonyea, Nathan Gonyea and Brianna Zhang, four great grandchildren Addison and Emmie Colby, Noah Gonyea and Rachel Zhang and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one daughter Linda Colby, six brothers Thomas, Albert, Wilbur, Clarence, Hayden and Leroy and four sisters Jenny, Elizabeth, Kathleen and Arlene.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon on Friday May 5, 2017 at the Elderwood of Uihlein Chapel in Lake Placid. Burial will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
