Charles Frederick Post, age 81, of Ray Brook, NY died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at his home following a brief illness.

Born in Cuddebackville, New York on December 03, 1927, he was the son of Harold and Anna (Brooks) Post.

Mr. Post had owned and operated the D & H Canal Store in Cuddebackville, NY for several years until his retirement in December 1993. Prior to that he had been employed as an Iron Worker and had been a Town of Deerpark Police Officer. Mr. Post is a past member of the Cuddebackville Volunteer Fire Department where he had volunteered for 35 years. Mr. Post was an avid outdoorsman and moved to Saranac Lake following his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club. He also loved to put together model airplanes. He served in the Army during World War II in the Battery A 337 Field Artillery Battalion 88th Division Infantry Division.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Carolyn Post of Ray Brook, NY, one son Wayne Post and his wife Mary Jo of Rome, NY, one daughter Sharon Harper and her husband David of Kutztown, PA, one sister Laura Stamp and her husband Halsey of Spring Hill, FL, two grandsons Jason and Craig, and three great grandchildren Ethan, Jennifer and Cameron. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday April 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Joanne White officiating. Burial will take place at the Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville, NY on Thursday April 2, 2009 at 1:30 PM.
