Eileen H. Plumley, a resident of Uihlein Living Center, passed away on May 11,2013 at the age of 96.
She was born Eileen Grace Hough on November 27, 1916, one of nine children of Charles and Grace (Ryan) Hough of Union Falls, New York. She graduated from Ausable Forks High School Class of 1935, and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Watertown, New York as a Registered Nurse in 1939.
After graduation she married Charles C. Plumley, Jr. of Bloomingdale, New York where they raised their two daughters. In 1977 they moved to Trudeau Road in Saranac Lake.
As a registered nurse, Eileen devoted her life to caring for the sick at the Saranac Lake General Hospital, Will Rogers and Adirondack Medical Center, retiring at the age of78.
She loved traveling with her sisters and friends and enjoyed her trips to Germany, Italy, Greece, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as time spent traveling to see her grand children and great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church, a volunteer at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and High Peaks Hospice. She was also a member of the American Red Cross, Saranac Lake Women's Civic Chamber, and Elks Lodge BPOE 1508 in Saranac Lake.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Persico and husband Richard of Lake Placid, New York and Sandra Aery and husband Paul of Saranac Lake, New York. She was adored by her four grandchildren, Kelli (Keator) Calvo and husband Karl of Annapolis, Maryland, Kregg Keator and his wife Nid of Lake Placid, New York, Aric Aery and his wife Tracy of Niskayuna, New York, and Amy (Aery) Sabourin and husband Scott of South Hero, VT.
Nine great grandchildren who knew her as their G.G. She was always ready to romp and play games with them. She is also survived by a sister, Alice Facteau of Nashua, NH and a brother Charles Hough of New Port Richey, Fl., along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in death by her husband Charles, her sisters Dorothy St.Denis, Joyce Flaherty, Kate McBride and brothers, Henry, James and Dennis Hough and sisters-in law, Cecelia Plumley and Helen Hough.
The family will greet family and friends at the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel at 11:00 AM on Wednesday May 15, 2013 prior-to a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. John R. Yonkovig presiding. Burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
