Robert Ploof

Robert (Bob) Howard Ploof, age 89, of Saranac Lake, and formerly of St. Regis Fall’s, NY died Tuesday September 6, 2022 at his residence surrounded by his family under the care of High Peaks Hospice.

Bob was born in St. Regis Falls on May 22, 1933, the son of Earl and Regina (Burnett) Ploof.

Robert was a lifelong resident of St. Regis Falls, NY, and worked in Massena where he started at Alcoa in 1952. Bob left Alcoa when he enlisted in the US Army where he spent 2 years and returned to Alcoa. Bob was laid off from Alcoa and went to work for the Seaway. Bob received a call from Reynolds Aluminum to return to work for them and he stayed there for 32 years until a stroke forced his retirement in 1992.

Bob married the former Janet Cummings in 1955 and raised a family of six children.

Bob was a great woodsman, where his favorite pastime was hunting. He was president of his hunting club and also served on the School Board of St. Regis Falls school district. Bob was a very busy person in life.

Bob is survived by his wife Janet, one daughter: Sheryl (Richard) of Winthrop, NY, five sons: Michael (Patti) of Saranac Lake, David of Gabriels, NY, William (Terri Penn) of Waddington, NY, Robert (Pam) of Texas and Neil Wade (Kristen) of North Carolina. Bob is also survived by his sister Janice (Ronald) Henderson and 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Calling hours are scheduled for Friday September 9, 2022 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Funeral services and burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
